SML Paints are now celebrating 20 years as a trusted marine paints and protective coatings supplier.  From a modest operation which started in a garden shed, the business has thrived, and have recently invested in new premises, state-of-the-art technology and have a strong enthusiastic team of experts, with customer service at the core of our idealology.

SML Paints have recognised the increasing demand for balancing ultimate protection with stunning finishes with low maintenance.  We are very mindful of our customers budgets, concerns, and painting experience when recommending any paint system.  This is at the heart of what we do. Our aim is to give the best advice, first time, every time.

From our new facility perfectly situated in the Cotswolds, SML Paints are holding huge levels of stock, available for immediate dispatch.  Nearly every order leaves on a priority service, meaning that well over 90% of deliveries are arriving the following working day.

Colour is a personal choice for the majority of our customers.  This is why we are able to tint the majority of our product range to order, to literally thousands of different colours.  This sits alongside our bespoke colour matching service which is able to replicate most colour schemes.

With over 60 years of experince, our philosophy is to offer a broad range of products.  This is key to growing the business.  That combined with ensuring that you, our customers, receive the best possible service and value for money.  As well as being Jotun’s principal marine paint distributor, we have daily access to the whole range of marine and protective paints and coatings.  This sits alongside SML’s own range of Shield primers, Lustre topcoats which are fast becoming top sellers for the business.

Marine Paints

Marine paints provide essential protection against harsh marine environments, preventing corrosion, fouling, and UV damage while enhancing durability and aesthetics. A marine coating system could include primers, tie-coats, topcoats, antifoul, hull blacking and varnishes.  Marine paints will be either single pack (1K) or 2-pack (2K) and are commonly either epoxy (high durability, water and chemical resistance), polyurethane (UV-resistence, very good flexibility) or alkyd (oil-based, water-resistant). When selecting marine paint, consider water exposure, substrate type, durability requirements, environmental regulations, and compatibility with other paints being used to ensure long-lasting protection and performance in demanding conditions.
